About This Program
Homelessness and substance use disorders are deeply intertwined. Individuals experiencing homelessness have addiction rates significantly higher than the general population, driven by trauma, mental illness, untreated pain, and the chaos and desperation of living without stable housing. Conversely, untreated addiction frequently leads to homelessness through job loss, family breakdown, and the costs of maintaining substance use. At Trust SoCal, our JCAHO-accredited treatment center in Fountain Valley, California, we recognize that treating addiction in individuals experiencing homelessness requires addressing both the addiction and the housing instability simultaneously. Our comprehensive program provides safe treatment while coordinating practical support for stable housing, documentation, benefits, and ongoing community support.
Homeless individuals facing addiction treatment often have profound barriers including lack of identification documents, limited access to hygiene facilities, untreated physical and mental health conditions, trauma histories including abuse and violence, and difficulty navigating complex systems. Many have been turned away from treatment programs that require fixed addresses or cannot accommodate someone without a home. Trust SoCal removes these barriers by providing treatment with flexible documentation requirements, coordination with housing providers and social services, and practical support for basic needs.
Many homeless individuals have experienced repeated trauma including childhood abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, and violence on the streets. These traumatic experiences drive both addiction and homelessness. Our trauma-informed approach creates a safe treatment environment where clients can begin to heal from past trauma while building a foundation for stable recovery. We also address the acute medical and psychiatric conditions common in homeless populations, including untreated infections, nutritional deficiencies, dental disease, mental illness, and chronic pain.
Discharge planning for homeless clients requires careful attention to housing stability, benefits access, community support, and a realistic transition plan. We work with local housing authorities, sober living programs, transitional housing providers, and benefits specialists to develop a discharge plan that includes stable housing before a client leaves our facility. We recognize that without addressing housing stability, the gains made in treatment are easily lost. If you are experiencing homelessness and struggling with addiction, call Trust SoCal today at (949) 280-8360 to discuss how we can help you begin the journey toward stable recovery.
