Adolescent substance use is fundamentally different from adult addiction. During the teenage years, the prefrontal cortex responsible for judgment, impulse control, and risk assessment is still actively developing. Adolescents are biologically predisposed to risk-taking and peer influence, and early substance use dramatically increases the risk of lifelong addiction. We also treat the co-occurring conditions common in adolescents including depression, anxiety, ADHD, and trauma.
