About Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) at Trust SoCal bridges the gap between residential inpatient treatment and traditional outpatient care, providing hospital-level therapeutic intensity while allowing clients to return home or to a sober living residence each evening. Our JCAHO-accredited PHP in Fountain Valley, Orange County, is designed for individuals who need a high level of clinical structure but have a stable, supportive living environment that can safely support their recovery outside of treatment hours.
PHP at Trust SoCal operates five to six days per week with six or more hours of structured therapeutic programming each day. The treatment schedule is comparable in clinical intensity to residential care, including individual therapy, group therapy, psychoeducation, psychiatric services, and experiential healing modalities. The key difference is that PHP clients practice applying their recovery skills in real-world settings each evening and weekend, building confidence and self-efficacy in managing daily life without substances.
Our PHP clinical team includes licensed therapists, psychiatrists, addiction counselors, and case managers who work collaboratively to deliver integrated, individualized care. Treatment plans are reviewed and updated weekly to reflect each client's evolving needs and progress. Clients with co-occurring mental health disorders receive integrated dual diagnosis treatment, including medication management from our psychiatric providers.
The therapeutic programming in PHP incorporates multiple evidence-based modalities. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps clients identify and restructure the thought patterns that drive addictive behavior. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) builds emotional regulation and distress tolerance skills. Group therapy provides peer support and accountability, while psychoeducation sessions deepen understanding of the disease of addiction and the recovery process. Relapse prevention planning is woven throughout the program, with clients developing and refining their personal relapse prevention strategies on an ongoing basis.
PHP is most commonly utilized as a step-down from residential inpatient treatment, providing a gradual and clinically supported transition to greater independence. However, some clients enter PHP directly if their clinical assessment indicates that this level of care is appropriate. The typical duration of PHP ranges from two to six weeks, though length of stay is determined by clinical progress and individual needs.
At Trust SoCal, we believe that the transition between levels of care is a critical period in recovery. Our PHP is specifically designed to maintain therapeutic momentum while clients begin rebuilding their daily routines, relationships, and responsibilities.
